Winter Wildlife

December, January & February

During the coldest months of the year, wildlife's natural food sources are in short supply. For the birds and wildlife that don't hibernate, they will still be on the hunt for food. Keeping your bird feeders topped is an easy way to attract birds in search of a tasty treat.

Weeding

March, April, May, June, July & August

During the spring and summer months weeds are growing very fast. Take them out including as much of the root as possible.
If you're not sure something is a weed, wait, and time will tell.
Tool tip: Use a hand weeder, one of our favorites is The Grubber from Spear &Jackson.

Plastic Pots

Reduce
Reuse
Recycle

Reducing the plants we buy in plastic pots is hard enough but recycling them too is almost impossible for most of us in the UK.
Leaving us with REUSE, this we can do. When you buy a plant keep the pot, use it, clean it and reuse it again. We can keep doing this until there is such a time when recycling plant pots is widely accessible.

Colour

Follow these 3 simple rules using the colour wheel and your garden will instantly look more stunning.
Complementary colours works great in gardens its the best for creating high contrast, stand out planting.

Clay Soil

Growing the right plants is a big part of successful gardening on clay soil.
Gardening on clay can be disheartening, choosing the right plants is part of the journey to success. Improving the soil is also beneficial, adding sand or grit to the soil and plenty of organic matter, soil improves and conditioners will also make a noticeable difference.

Roses are particularly reliable on clay soil types but for more plant ideas check out 10 of the best plants to grow in clay soil types, these are all winners of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit.
